DLA increased was created by carol48
Hi
Thanks to all the help and information on this website I have managed to get my low rate care increased to the middle rate, which entitles me to bus pass with companion which is great and I am sure an extra premium on my IS. I applied and was refused the increase, if it wasn't for this site I would have left it at that. If I hadn't read on here that in appealing they automatically look at the award again. This was done and I was sent for a medical which for me was horrendous, though the doctor seemed okay. It has to be backdated to 1st December last year and reviewed Dec 2011. I know you can ask for copies of the medical report for IB and ESA, can I ask for copy of report and anything else for DLA. I know moderators are sick and others will be extremely busy so I was wondering if anyone else has received copies medical and award decisions about their DLA that can point me in the right direction, who to ask? what to ask for?. Just so I have it when it comes to renewing it.

The rules for the severe disability premium payable with IS are:-

Single rate

If you are single, you may get the lower rate premium if you live alone, no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you and you get the middle or highest care component of Disability Living Allowance.

Couples (higher rate)

If you have a partner, you may get the higher rate premium if no one else lives with you, no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you and either:

* you both get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance; or
* you get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance and your partner gets Attendance Allowance

Couples (lower rate)

If you have a partner, you may get the lower rate premium if no one else lives with you and either:

* you both get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance, and Carer's Allowance is paid for only one of you; or
* you get the middle or highest rate of the care component of Disability Living Allowance and your partner gets Attendance Allowance, and Carer's Allowance is paid for only one of you; or
* you get the middle or highest rate of Disability Living Allowance care component and your partner is registered blind, and no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you

The severe disability premium can be awarded in addition to other premiums.

Hi, thanks kathy, letitia, steve and crazydiamond.
I am on income support but my 18year old daughter stays with me and is at university, she is not working and gets student loan and bursary. She gets high rate mobility but not the care componant so I don't think I am entitled to the severe disability premium, but she is moving out next week and so I think if I wait and ask for it when she leaves I should be entitled to it then. I will write to the department and ask for the medical report and decision notice. Already applied for the bus pass as it will save a fortune as I always take one of my daughters anywhere I go so they will be free as well. Thanks again for all the support, I would never have managed on my own.
