i got dla middle rate! was created by ShadowPony
hi, after seven months, and nearly going to appeal, i got middle rate DLA. it's amazing isn't it, how much information you need to give, and how explicit you need to be? i am totally blind, and most totally blind people get middle rate care for DLA. though due to lack of advice until a year back, i hadn't been given a chance of getting what benifits i was entitled to. Now though, i have middle rate care on the DLA. and when the mobility component comes in in 2011, i'll be going for that, as i'm completely blind, can't see a dam thing, blind as a bat, sightless, you know? blind, or do they call it seveerly sight impaired now? what a joke, why not just call it blind? now i don't know waht's going to happen to my SDA, as i'm on that old dino benefit, but i'm due a PCA in december. have already done ESA test on this site, and get fifteen points, as can't see a thing, but don't know how good the support into work is on pathways. if it is as was in 2006 when i went voluntarily, the support was obismal, they coudln't even raise large print for a friend of mine also on the course, let alone get a computer to talk so i could use it. they claimed that, by giving me a cable to plug my computer, adapted, into their internet, they were complying with the DDA. erhrhrh yah, ok, rubbish that. i just hope, if i'm to go for work focused interviews, they are worth something to me. i will do all they want, but i want something in return. ttfn.

Hi martin,
Well done on the DLA and thanks for letting us know.
I would be interested to hear how you get on if you do end up having Pathways interviews in the future - I don't think compliance with the DDA has improved a great deal.

i'm hoping i'm treated well by the system when it comes to the ESA , but fear i won't be. i've looked at the ESA, and what it expects of claiments. yes i'll get basic rate, but i'll bet they've never yet come across totally blind people, if they have, i'd like to know how they dealt with them. i'm glad i got DLA and will deal with the ESA if and when it comes.

Hi Martin,
Dealing with ESA if and when it comes sounds like a very sensible attitude.
Hopefully we'll still be around to offer information and support too.

I hope you are. it is only with the help of websites like this, and certain advice agencies that i've been able to get the benefits i'm entitled to.
