ESA advice was created by marnie
Has anyone claimed ESA without a medical especially on mental health grounds?
I've got major mental health problems(severe manic depression)and the thought of a medical is making me ill as well as not relating to anyone face to face.
Thanks
marnie

I had a look in the ESA Mental Health Limited Capability for Work manual from the members section and it says;

Unfortunately, there are no grounds on which you can be exempted solely because of a mental health condition or learning difficulties, no matter how severe. All the grounds relate primarily to physical health conditions. They deal with issues such as terminal illness or contact with a notifiable disease.

I would suggest you get some face to face advice from a suitable advisor, I think it would also be worth you contacting some of the mental health charities to see if they can help.

Hi Marnie,

Some people are placed in the work-related activity group or the support group without having to attend a medical. It depends on the severity of the condition and on the strength of any supporting evdence.

Good luck,
