Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

There has to be an underlying mental cause, so if your hands were being operated on to correct an impairment, that you were so embarrased about it prevented you meeting people then that would be reasonable.Hi

Hi
Have just been told by a colleague that the mental and physical assessments in the appeal are totally different so that if you have a physical disability and it gets you down you cannot claim for mental health assessment or qualifiers unless you have had a mental assessment from your doctor ???
Is this true and if so why then do we have to fill in all the questions in the medical questionaire
Many thanks

You don't need a doctors certificate, but you may be expected to provide evidence, this could include statements by your GP. Of course, if they believe that the problems with your hands are purely physical, they may not be willing to support you. Thanks Gordon

To try and answer your question. No, you do not have to have been "assessed" by your doctor. However, it will diminish your case if your Doctor has not looked at your mental health, and you are claiming it is a reason why you cannot work.

OK, can I ask what you mean by "appeal", because it sounds like you actually mean "medical".Hi
