Hi all, looking for a little info regarding my upcoming medical on tues 27 sept.As I mentioned in earlier posts as well as problems with my back and depression I have also been confirmed as suffering from early onset alzheimers disease. My question is will I be allowed to have either my wife in the medical with me or can I bring in written notes? I will need one or the other because if the doctor asks questions about my condition regarding my back or depression I doubt very much if I shall be able to answer as I am at the stage now where I have great difficulty recalling events within 24/48 hours ago.My own doctor sent my medical details to I believe the DWP outlining my condition regarding the alzheimers and she seems very surprised they are even sending me for a medical but advised me to go anyway. If I am allowed would I be better on my own with written notes or if my wife accompanies me will they allow her to speak regarding my condition?
Hi J2,
Your wife or any other companion can attend the assessment with you.
They can take written notes with them, or even a copy of your ESA50, or any other relevant evidence if you wish.
They are also allowed to take notes, and help you to put across your points if necessary.

ESA claims on mental health grounds, from page 65 onwards re : attending a medical.
It is also mentioned in the ESA claims on physical health grounds also, page 60 onwards.

Further to what Bro58 has suggested, have a look at the WCA handbook in the Members Only area. Section 3.1.3.3 on page 39 covers a companion attending the medical with a claimant.
You should explain why your wife is there and that on occasions, she may have to answer on your behalf due to your memory problems. If the "doctor" has a problem with this, refer them to the WCA Handbook as referenced above.
