Hi C,
See information on Carer's Allowance here. :
www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits...rsomeone/DG_10018705
I assume that your question is, can you be classed as a carer, and still qualify for The Support Group of ESA?
This is possible as long as none of the duties carried out as a carer conflict with your limitations that qualify you for Support Group status.
e.g. Someone could be in the Support Group with mental health issues, but could offer physical care, in their capacity as a carer, or vica versa.

Hi C,
It appears that your question was, if you become your son's carer will you be put straight into the support group?.
The answer is "no" DLA, ESA, and Carer's Allowance, are all totally seperate benefits.
To be put into the Support Group of ESA, you must prove that you fulfill the criteria and descriptors of said group.
As claiming Carer's Allowance can mean taking into account any "overlapping benefits" etc, and it is not a straight forward matter, I would advise that you gain face to face advice from CAB etc, as they would have access to all your benefit income details.

Or try ringing the Benefits Enquiry Line, BEL, where you can gain information anonymously.
