I'm filling out DLA claim form. I have a wheelchair but find it hard to use due to arthitis etc, so I normally use a motability scooter so that I don't have to have carer pushing me. If I say that I am using the scooter for moving around, will DLA decision maker apply as many points as they would if I had said I use a wheelchair? Someone once told me that a motability scooter is sometimes regarded as being a convenience mode of transport, whereas a wheelchair is classed as being more of a necessity.

Hi,
With DLA it is your actual care/mobility needs that are important, not necessarily the condition or what help you get with your needs .help with your needs can include personal intervention and/or use of a aid such as a scooter, wheelchair etc.
If you believe using a scooter is more beneficial to you than a powered wheelchair then you can explain how and why (relative to your mobility needs) on the form.
