Hi all, New to this site and need alittle help.
I have received a ESA claim form and want to know if I have to fill in all the details about my partner if I am not claiming for them.
It is a relationship that has only been going 6 months, we live together and he is in full time work with his own savings.. what has this got to do with any claim I make.
It is not fair to ask him personal/private questions and I dont want to put him in a possition that makes him uncomfortable.

Hi,
At the start of the claim process the DWP do need to establish whether you may be entitled to Contribution Based ESA, Income Related ESA or a mixture of both.
In determining entitlement to Income Related ESA, you do have to give details of people living with you, no matter how long they have lived with you.
In signing the ESA1 claim form, you are declaring you are giving all the necessary information in order to determine your entitlement to benefit.

Thanks for that, but do I have to give all his banking details etc or just fill in the first few pages with his name nat insurance number etc.

Hi,
Looking at part 14 of the ESA1 form, you will have to give aggregated (ie both of your) balances on bank accounts, saving, stocks, shares etc etc. Actual Bank details are at this stage only required for the account you wish any benefit to be paid into.
However they can and sometimes do request bank statements etc in order that entitlement to any income related benefits maybe established.

The ESA1 form, that I assume you are completing, has the following remark at the head of the Partner columnThanks for that, but do I have to give all his banking details etc or just fill in the first few pages with his name nat insurance number etc.
So if you believe you are eligible for Contribution Based ESA, you do not need to complete the Partner column, however, if you do not, or you want to claim Income Related ESA, then you do.Fill in this column if you have a partner and want to claim income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
You should note, if you apply for ESA(CB), but do not meet the Contribution requirements and your claim is switched to ESA(IR), your claim will be delayed, while this information is requested,

I did the basic claim on the phone. They asked whether I wanted to try and claim ESA(IR), as I said 'no' they didn't ask for any details re my OH or his bank account.
