ESA Support Group & Medical Certificates was created by stanley
Jobcentre Plus say I am to be placed in the Support Group following my appeal. My current medical certifcate runs to the end of Dec.
I have heard that I will not now need to submit a new medical certificate when this one expires??
Could you please clarify/explain the situation on this.
Thank you ...... stanley

Hi,
Once you are awarded ESA, be it in the Work Related Activity Group or Support Group, then sick notes (nowadays referred to as fit notes) are no longer required to be sent into the DWP.
In making the decision to award you ESA in either group) the DWP agree you are not fit to work (However in the support group one maybe required to attend Work Focussed Interviews etc. In the support group you do not have to attend these but can volunteer if one wishes). As the DWP agree you are not fit to work, no further certificates are required as long as the award remains in place.
