Applying for DLA with Myeloproliferative Neoplasm was created by ExtraTerrestrial
With the excellent advice from this website I have decided to re-apply for DLA. I was diagnosed in 2003 with Essential thrombocythaemia a rare chronic maligancy of the bone marrow in which my bone marrow produces too many platelets and means I am prone to thrombotic events.

My diagnosis came after experiencing a Myocardial Infarction at the age of 33.
I take a number of different drugs including Bisoprolol fumarate, Ramipril, Simvastatin, Aspirin and Pegasys Interferon.

I have a number of problems both mental and physical which seriously affect my health & well being but my condition is so rare that it is difficult to find anyone to act as an advocate for me with my application.

My GP does her best but has minimal knowledge of my condition and my Consultant tends to concentrate on my blood results and fails to see the bigger picture and how my life is affected by this debilitating condition.

I regularly attend my GP for blood tests and a number of other problems which my GP fails to connect to my condition. I see my Consultant every 3 months but always leave feeling missunderstood, frustrated and often depressed. As a result I have little faith in either of them being of much use.

Who else can I find to represent me in what is certain to be a long and stressful struggle with the DWP?

I have filled the application in myself and sent a GP and spouse reference as well as a number of scientific studies on ET and also various medical assessments on how my condition affects me but I am almost certain I will be turned down so am preparing myself for the next round of artillery to throw at them.

Any advice will be very welcome.

Hi ET

I have inserted paragraphs into your post to make it easier to read.

As it appears that you have submitted a claim for DLA and you are awaiting the outcome, I would suggest you read the Members Only orange section, for information on DLA claims and appeals, should of course an appeal be necessary.

Regards

Michael

Hi ET,

Although proof of your medical conditions can only help your claim, an award of DLA is given because of a claimant's limitations/disabilities/needs, etc.

So the important issue is to go into detail regarding your limitations etc.

No two people will have exactly the same limitations etc, even if they have the same medical conditions.

It is these limitations etc that you should discuss with you G.P. as the DWP will probably send him a report to fill in.

See here :

cheers
