Now the government have not taken away DLA motability for people in care homes on 01/12/2011 will the same apply to all the rest of us that are not in care homes. My wife has M.S and a crumbling spine and she is worried like a lot of other people.I was on facebook and the news came through this afternoon and many people was asking same question.Ilost my job after having a stroke whie i was driving a large earthmoving digger.I have since been weak on left side and keep falling over but dla say that is not good enough to give me any care componant and gave me low rate mobility. As well as falling over and high blood pressure i have arthritis all over my body due to trips and falls in construction sites. Will my wife lose her car and what is going to happen to us all when we go onto pip.
Hi,
The announcement today by Maria Miller in effect changes nothing. All the statement relates to is the fact that High Rate Mobility Component of DLA will continue to be given to those who are eligible and reside in funded care homes.
When Personal Independence Payments (PIP) comes into force, all working aged current DLA claimants will be reassessed under the new PIP regulations. Whether or not any individual reaches the threshold for an award of PIP is impossible to say.

Also, DLA will be changing to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in the next few years. From 2013 to 2015/16, all DLA claimants of working (16 to 64 years of age) will have their claim reassessed for PIP.
At present the Government have stated they have no plans to stop DLA for children ( under 16 years of age) or for those who are over 65 years old.
Where or not this will change is anyone's guess, as Government change their decisions
as often as I change ny socks !! (daily)
