ESA Bank Letter ? was created by Crusoe
Hi all
My Husband had been on incapacity benefit but had been placed in the WRAG without a medical on just on what the nurse who looked at his ESA50 said, although from the report I requested I do not think she either really looked at it or read much of it, just farcical. It was assessed within one day of them receiving the ESA50, it was full of complete opposites of what I actually wrote with the help of your excellent guides in the ESA50 form, which comes as no surprise I guess, she even said the claimant is not pregnant, now that would have been an immaculate conception as he is male, anyway I had sent in an appeal form for him to be placed in the support group which only got to them on the 28 Nov then today in the post he received a letter from ESA which did not say why or what it was about ? but that they had put £285 in his account.
Has anyone got any thoughts on what this could mean, thanks for any ideas.

First, and it may not seem it if you were aiming for the Support Group, but congratulations to your husband for being placed in the WRAG.

So points you should be aware of if appealing to the Support Group.

Is there any risk to challenging a decision?

Qualifying for the WRAG

How long do I have to appeal?

With regard to the payment, the transfer process works slightly differently from a new claim for ESA.

Claimants remain on their existing benefit (IB), until a Decision is made, you should then be notified of the result and given a Effective Date of Transfer, which is usually 3-4 weeks after the date of the Decision.

The claimant will remain on their old benefit until this date, when they will then be transferred to ESA payments.

It is possible therefore that the payment you have received is a final payment of IB upto the Date of Transfer.

There are no back payments to make as there is no overlap of the benefits, and the starting date of your husbands ESA should coincide with the DWPs ESA payment schedule, so there should be no need for a part payment of ESA.

Beyond this, I can only suggest you contact your local DWP office for confirmation.
