I went to see my doctor the other day and I said to him that it would be really hard for me to go for the medical because of my severe OCD and asked if he could fax a letter to the DWP requesting a home visit. His response was that as ATOS is an independent company "to do with the government", so I wouldn't be able to have a home visit. Is this correct or was he just dismissing me?
Thanks.

With regards to your question, members have received written support from their G.P.'s in their request for a Home Medical, however ATOS do seem reluctant to carry out ESA Home Assessments, further the G.P.is not contractually obligated to give any written support to their patients.
There is a section in the ESA50 questionnaire about requesting a Home Assessment, also the DWP/ATOS may send your G.P. an ESA113, where the question is asked at question 6, see ESA113 here :

I have to have a medical next week, if I don't get put in the support group and end up appealing, how long does it take to find out the result of the medical and if I do have to appeal how long does it take between finding out the result of the medical to having the appeal heard?
Thanks.

My sympathies to you. I have severe OCD also and was put in the Support Group - so take heart and try not to panic.
Good luck
