Medical services was created by paul
Hi all,
When the DWP DM state the term "medical services" in their response to you, is it a department in the DWP building in Blackpool(for DLA), or are they sending for advice to ATOS medical professionals at a different address?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Thanks Gordon,
Does this mean that things aren't sent "down the corridor" but are faxed to a remote building at a different location?

I don't know whether ATOS Healthcare have staff within DWP buildings, but I would suspect they probably do in some cases, and in others the DWP consult with ATOS staff in their own buildings. Thanks Gordon,

Hi.
With my DLA renewal, the DM sought advice from 'Medical Services' about my evidence. I have their response in my submission papers from DWP on a specific "advice request form" (DBD385), which in my case was to refer on for a full assessment.
When I queried DWP who medical Services were, they told me they have their own HCP team in their building who help with medical queries for DMs from the claim packs & evidence. I did ask if it was the same people who did the assessments, and I was told it wasnt. But the person I asked did sound a little bit unsure - maybe I confused them with the way I worded the question?
On the form it has a tick box for one of the following HCPs who have given the advice: registered medical practioner; registered nurse; registered OT; registered physio. There is a page on this form for the DM to ask specific questions.
Hope this helps

Thanks Bobber,
I personally suspect that the DWP in Blackpool who deal with DLA claims have their own medical team (nurse, phsio, or the odd qualified doctor)on site to refer to for advice to keep things as simple as possible without going "off site" to ATOS in order to get the information they need. This would ensure a speedy response without having to wait on someone else's inclination to answer.
