Did you know this about DLA Reviews

Confused? You will be

I am in receipt of HRM for severe osteo arthritis etc. My claim is due to be renewed end of July. At the beginning of January, last month, I received a form to fill in called a review to make sure I was getting the right amount and was given until the end of January to return it,
3 weeks. They said that if I needed more time to call them so I did. I told them that i needed help to fill it in and that I couldnt see anyone until March as there was a waiting list and asked if they would wait until end of March. I was not given s straight answer by 2 operators and told that someone would call me back to confirm. This did not happen so yesterday I thought I better call and see as it was the end of the month and did not want my money to stop. I spoke to a guy and asked him if they would stop my money as i cant get the REVIEW form back to them until March, this is what he said,
"We would not stop your money as the RENEWAL is not until end of July". I reminded him that this was a REVIEW form and he said, never the less "Although we would like it back in 3 weeks we realise that it may take longer and would not stop your money as your renewal isnt until July and that the Review and Renewal are nothing to do with each other.
I am confused. So does this mean that even though I am going through this review now I may still have to regurgitate it all again for the renewal in July and why does it not say that on the Review form.

Ang

A review is different from a renewal.

As I understand it, a review will result in a new Decsion being made with regard to your claim, this may be to increase your award, leave it as it is, or to reduce or remove your award.

Assuming an award is actually made, then you should not be re-assessed for at least 12 months as this is the minimum period an award can be made for.

Hope this explains it.

Hi Ang

You can be sent a review form (DLA80)even if you are on DLA indefinitely 'like wot I am on'!

I had to complete one at the end of 2010, and was given 3 wks to complete and return. I rang and spoke to a lovely young man who told me not to worry and just return it as soon as I could.

The DWP did send a HCP to give me a medical, but nothing changed, I still have my HRM and HRC.

That's correct L45,

A review can be instigated at any time after the claimant has been in receipt of a DLA award for 12 months, no matter what the length of the award is.

A renewal takes place, when a fixed award of say 3 or 5 years for example, is coming to an end.
