It is very difficult to answer you without pointing you at other information, so if I do so, please understand that I am doing it because it is something you need to look at.

First, let me make sure you understand the WRAG. You have been found Unfit for Work, and being in the WRAG means that you are NOT required to work, or even to seek work.

In terms of appealing, rather than writing a letter, I would suggest you complete a GL24 appeal form, you can download a copy from the following link

www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/gl24dwp.pdf

Our ESA Appeal guide, page 8 onwards, explains how to complete the form.

The important thing is that you do not need to specify every reason why you want to appeal, as the guide explains, you just need to give some basic reasons as you will have time to submit more information later.

Qualifying for the Support Group is not quite as easy as you suggest, for example being unable to walk is in itself not enough to qualify as you also need to show that you cannot propel a wheelchair for more than 50m, even if you do not use a wheelchair, or even own one.

If you look at our ESA claim guides, you will get a better understanding of what the criteria are. These are on the following link

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa

Whilst I can appreciate how debilitating depression can be, I suffer from it myself, in itself, it does not qualify you for ESA. You must look at the limitations that having the condition places on you. Again, this is explained in the claim guides.

I think I've covered all your questions, but if I haven't or you have further questions, please reply to this thread.

Hi B2n,

Just as an add-on to Gordon's excellent advice, please see the actual Support Group qualifying descriptors, which are part of the ESA Regulations.

Again though, I'm afraid it is a link :

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/228/schedule/2/made?view=plain

Hi B2N,

Just to clarify, you only have to fulfill one of the SG descriptors, to qualify for the SG.
