Back issues Limb or Torso? was created by micksville
Having scoured the disability handbook link and the a-z of medical conditions I still cant find an answer to this. For purposes related to my appeal of WRAG ESA i am trying to find out exactly where I scored points. I have a good idea as I have a long standing disability with my knees and this affects my back too. I have a lesser issue with my right hand which may have scored me points on manual dexterity descriptor. I wonder if any members know whether the back is classed as an upper or lower limb in the medical terminology? Or would it be merely referred to as the torso?
i ask as the ESA 85a is predictably vague and says onkly that I have disability due to uper and lower limb muscoskeletal problems. For example the neck seems to be classed asant.ic a limb ( upper obviously)..I know it sounds an odd question but it would shed some light and could prove signif

The back would be upper body.

It sounds like you need to see the Decision Makers scoresheet, if you have not done so already, have a look at the following FAQ.

ESA medical – what forms to ask for?

I asked for that Gordon even used the template from here but recieved only the ESA85a and (some) of the medical evidence I sent them. A letter explaining my disabilities and how they affect me seems to have not been forwarded to the DM from Atos There was no request to my GP for info from what I was told by phone and as I say I havent been forwarded any scoresheet. You are saying the back would be upper body as opposed to upper limbs?

sorry Gordon I dont think my last reply went through properly. By score sheet I assume you mean details of which descriptors you scored points on and how many? Are the DWP duty bound to divulge this if requested?

The only other thing I can suggest is that you raise a Subject Access Request for all of your information, there's a guide on this link.

Upper limbs are the arms, Upper body includes Upper limbs.
