Queries about forum hours

1] Do the rules on forum posting hours also apply to comments on news items?
2] A couple of times I've found that posts I thought I had sent within the time slots had not been posted. Obviously, they could simply have been ruled unacceptable by Mods, but if they weren't, was some other factor at work?
It occurred to me that what I had sent within the given hours might not have arrived on the Mod's desk within that time.
So, should we avoid posting in the last 10-15 minutes before closing time. Give the mods a sort of "drinking up" time!

1. Not that I am aware.
2. We ocassionally have problems with posts disappearing but it is infrequent and somewhat random.
We have changed our policy with regard to posts that cannot be published, in as much, that Moderators may delete them without posting a reason to the forum. However, it is quite rare for members to post such a post, I have have only had one in the last four weeks.
Posts are time stamped when you click the submit button and this is visble to the Moderator when approving.
I don't think we would want members to restrict there posting during the times that the forum is officially open, but members need to be aware that posts outside those hours will not be approved and may be deleted.

Requesting clarification on a couple of points

Hi C,
News items can be posted anytime, even when the forum is locked.
However, although moderators can approve both new posts and threads in the forum, only the site owner Steve Donnison can approve contributions to Benefits News, although it is a bit confusing as when one posts to Benefits News, it states 'awaiting approval by moderator' when to reiterate only Steve can approve contributions to Benefits News.
Presumably, this has something to do with the forum software, or for legal reasons
Steve may only want contributions to Benefits News to be approved by him.
Over to you Steve for a definitive explanation.
Kind regards.
Jim

All posts submitted to the site are viewable by moderators almost instantly, and as Gordon said, each post is time-stamped.It occurred to me that what I had sent within the given hours might not have arrived on the Mod's desk within that time.

However you have made a good point. It must be quite frustrating to spend 10 minutes typing out a post only to miss the deadline by a minute, so certainly bear in mind how long a post is likely to take to write, before beginning a post near closing time. And make sure you keep a copy of any post you wouldn't want to retype.

I haven't tested this, but I think as long as the forum is unlocked you can create a new post, and even if it then locked, still submit it to be moderated.
Once the forum is locked, you cannot then create a new post.
If I have chance tonight I'll test it and see what happens.

If the forum is locked then as a moderator it will allow you to create a new post or thread.
I don't think it will allow members to do the same.Perhaps a member could try it and let us know the result.
