Many thanks

Hi JIP,
These are the Support Group Descriptors, :
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/228/schedule/2/made?view=plain
And these are the WRAG Descriptors :
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/228/schedule/1/made?view=plain
See also :
Qualifying for the Support Group
Qualifying for the WRAG
This is the Exceptional Circumstances rules to gain entry to the SG without having to fulfill any of the SG Descriptors as above :
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2008/794/regulation/35/made
And these are the Exceptional Circumstances rules that gain you entry to the WRAG without having to score any points at all, :
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2008/794/regulation/29/made
I am not sure what you are referring to in the WCA Handbook, can you give the relevant section and page number?

Hi JIP,
Thanks.
Page 64 of WCA Handbook that you refer to, Quote :
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTORS
3.2.2 Mobilising
(Descriptors in italics and bold reflect a level of disability meeting Support Group inclusion)
Activity 1: Mobilising unaided by another person with or without a walking stick, manual wheelchair or other aid if such aid can reasonably be used.
Descriptors
W(a) Cannot either
(i) mobilise more than 50 metres on level ground without stopping in order to avoid significant discomfort or exhaustion
or
(ii) repeatedly mobilise 50 metres within a reasonable timescale because of significant discomfort or exhaustion.
W(a) (i) or (ii) as above actually corresponds to Schedule 3 Regulation 34 (1) 1. (a) or (b) of the Support Group Descriptors as on the first link that I gave you.
Page 68, Quote :
3.2.3 Standing and sitting
Activity 2: Standing and sitting
Descriptors
S(a) Cannot move between one seated position and another seated position located next to one another without receiving physical assistance from another person
S(a) corresponds with Schedule 3 Regulation 34 (1) 2. of the Support Group Descriptors of the ESA regulations on the same link.
So the W(a) and S(a) are not the actual ESA Regulation numbers as you can see, even though they are SG qualifying descriptors.
Don't forget an award of 15 points or more cumulatively only puts a claimant into the WRAG, you must score 15 points, the maximum, on at least one of the SG qualifying descriptors.
Please note The WCA Handbook is not law or legislation, it is guidance given to ATOS HCP's.

Descriptor 2(a) corresponds to descriptor 2 for the Support Group.
