WRAG - Hassles was created by Tavia
Friend transferred from IC to ESA - WRAG with no medical. Told Support Group only for those who will never work again but that there was a chance of friend workin geven if it was years away.

Despite having to spend about 50% of time in bed because of pain and fatigue, friend went to Work Focused Job Centre interview. Told by JC staff that friend must attend either Job Centre interviews and courses or go on a Program (ATOS run?). They strongly reccommened program over Job centre.

Friend saw ATOS/Program Organiser who saw how ill friend is and said friend was not suitable for the Program and to go back to Job Centre.

Friend went back to Job Centre and staff there again tsaid friend should go on Program as Job Centre courses cold involve 60 mile round trip for up to a week at a time (friend would find this almost impossilbe to arrange transport etc) and friend also told by JC staff that Program was better as in the Job Centre friend would have to go on course or interviews with "unsavory charaters". Friend told decision must be made there and then so said yes to program again. Friend also told to expect to have to apply for 5 jobs per fortnight - although too ill to get out of bed often. (I thought that was only on Job Seekers?)

Friend increasingly upset and down about all this and very worried about benefit being stopped if too unwell to attend course or interview.

Can friend get a doctor's line to be excused from courses and interviews? Or anyone friend can appeal to?

I am afraid that WFIs and the Work Programme are a mandatory component of the WRAG, see

Work Focussed Interviews

Work Programme

However, such activities must be commensurate with their condition and abilities. It is unlikely that a Fit Note will make any difference.

If your friend believes they meet the criteria for the Support Group then they can lodge an appeal, see

Is there any risk to challenging a decision?

How long do I have to appeal?

How to submit an appeal

Qualifying for the Support Group

However, this will not excuse them from participating in the activities they have agreed to.

That said, they are not legally required to work, or even seek work, while they are in the WRAG, so they should question the requirement for them to apply for 5 jobs a fortnight.
