Totally confused was created by adra04778
Hi I have been reading the web site, but to be honest I don't really understand it, so if I may I would like to ask a few questions,I have been on Incapacity benefit for the last 10 years since I broke my back, I aslo get DLA middle allowance, I am going for a medical tomorrow (went once and they sent me home because they were running late )anyway If I understand it right, if they put me on work related benefit, I will get that for 12 months because my national insurance will of been paid in with my incapacity, then it stops ? So do we just have to register self employed and pay it ourselves ? I am totally confused, luckily I can live without the benefit, but I would like a pension eventually, do you have to go to the dole office every two week to sign on if they put you on a job seeker list ?
If this isn't allowed here, can you point me to a forum where I could ask please, Thanks a lot.

As you say, if you are put in the WRAG it will be paid for 365 days on a contributary basis. It would only continue after that if you are entitled to income-related ESA. After that your NI contributions would be credited for your pension as long as you remain classed as unfit for work. You will be subjected to re-assessments during this time, it is expected that this will be in the form of an ESA50, it is not clear whether you would have further 'medicals'.

Everybody on IB will be transferred to ESA(CB), if you currently receive an Income Support top-up, then this will be turned into ESA(IR).
The 365 day time limit is specific to claimants receiving ESA(CB) who have been in the WRAG for this period of time, see

ESA comes in two "flavours"; Contribution Based ESA, which is paid if you have paid sufficient NI Contributions and Income Related, which is paid if you do not meet the contribution requirements and have a low income.Thank-you, could you explain what income related esa is please.
