carers allowance affect my benefit was created by Fleur33
Hi, my step son gets DLA high award for mobility and care and also ESA. I don't lift him or make his food, I can't, I'm too ill myself but I am here with him 24/7. I take his meals to him and support him through out the day. I am in receipt of DLA and SDA. The social worker said I was entitled to claim carers allowance, but surely my benefits would be affected if I were to claim?
Cab have closed, welfare rights is too busy with appeals and the law centre said I am not in their area they so can't advise me.
Would my husband and Daughters income be taking into consideration too?
thanks

Hi Amber, one thing I do know is thjat DLA is not a means-tested benefit, so it will not change whatever your household income.
I hope that someone will be able to answer your question more fully.

Unfortunately, Carers Allowance is an overlapping benefit with many others, and where this is the case, there is no additional payment.
However, having an underlying entitlement for CA, can result in you becoming eligible for other benefits or premiums, which are payable.
Unfortunately, it far to complicated for us to be able to advise on the forum so you need to find an advice agency you can look at your situation and give you personal advice, see
