I am in full time work though awaiting to be pensioned off, I am on half pay at present my H.R. informed me I was entitled to ESA applied and recieved payment. I then recieved phonecall/letter to attend medical on the 14/05/12, tried to explain I was still in work, was told I must attend! has anyone expierence of this?.
Many thanks

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi roger,
In order to be awarded ESA you will need to attend the medical. If awarded ESa in the Work Related Activity Group you would alsio have to attend 'Work Focused Interviews' even though you have a job to return to!
However, I was unaware that you could claim ESA while still on half pay from work. I hope that one of the other mods will be able to clear that up for me

My understanding is that you can only make a claim for ESA, whilst still in employment, after your SSP has finished, which I would assume is after full/half/... pay has been exhausted. However, I was unaware that you could claim ESA while still on half pay from work. Thank you for quick replies, no still on half pay HR quite clear you can claim as others have done successfully, work for a Local Athourity and the HR dept. has said all staff including teachers other professionals have been successful, they said very few know they can claim but are enntitled.

Hi
My partner is in the exact position.
He to as been on half pay with esa payment, as now gone onto no pay. He is going to atos medical on thursday this week, he explained he is stilled employed even though he is no longer getting paid from work, he is going down ill health retired route.
its a bit confusing when really technically you have a job but have to go through the medical suppose its to confirm you are really ill to them
oh well see what thursday brings

That is interesting, roger, I didn't know that when I was still on half pay! Having said that, I am probably glad that I did not use up my 365 day WRAG entitlement when I was still getting some pay, it has been more helpful now that I am no longer employed.
