Advice Needed re: ESA ATOS Home Medical was created by Pandora Spocks
Hello everyone,

I reapplied for ESA on the 5th July last year, I finally received a letter calling me in for a medical 6 days before the appointment which would involve a 150 mile round trip - involving a ferry, asking someone to drive me to the medical etc - would also have cost me £60 minimum.

I called ATOS and explained that the journey would have a negative effect on my health (I have PTSD and CFS)plus I couldn't manage a trip that long nor could afford it. The lady I spoke to was very understanding and said she's request a home medical.

Got letter through yesterday to say this has been arranged and they'll let me know when a Dr is available to come and see me.

My question is this: What can or should I do to prepare for this visit?
******************************

The last time a Dr came to assess me for ESA 3 years ago created a work of fiction which resulted in going to a Tribunal in which they verbally violated and frightened me. I lost my appeal and was very very close to being hospitalised and my health was severely affected.

I had to apply for JSA - the people in the DWP told me I wasn't fit enough to look for work!

My consultant (whom I see every 2 weeks) wrote a very detailed and supportive letter to submit this time but it seems as though that isn't sufficient.

I'm extremely agitated, I don't want history repeating itself.

All advice received gratefully.

All our information on ESA is in ESA Resources

Try reading or downloading Work-focused health-related activities assesment handbook from that area that may help.

If not, perhaps another moderator with experience of ESA can give you more information.

Since retirement, I now concentrate on giving advice on DLA and appeals, and where possible Personal Independence Payment (PIP) which will from 2013 to 2016 eventually replace DLA for those 16-64 years old.
