Gordon,

Apologies about labouring the point but I just want to get this clear in my head.

If I close the Jan claim is the date that linking runs from the date I made the claim from (and therefore request it to be closed from) or the day I contact the DWP to close the claim?

I appreciate linking is unlikely to be an issue here but I would prefer to avoid all unnecessary aggro.

If I am reading what you are saying correctly I can close the Jan claim, make a fresh one (say today) and if the DWP then requests docs back to Jan I am able to request my fresh claim is backdated 3 months.

I really appreciate your advice I feel alot better about things today. :cheer:

It will be from the date that your previous claim is closed.

I can only repeat my comments from my previous post, as a condition of receiving the benefit, the DWP are entitled to request your financial records. Even if you break the link between the two claims they are entitled to request your bank details from January, it may well be that they won't, but they can.

Gordon,

Yes I appreciate the DWP probably could ask for last 5 years worth of bank info if they wished. Not that its likely.

So the date my previous claim is closed is the date I request them to close it on?

So I could close it on the day it was opened or thereabouts?

No, you cannot backdate the closure, the earliest you could close the claim is today.
