ESA letter advice please was created by Fleur33
Hi all,
My stepson is still waiting for a letter to find out if his ESA claim is successful,( he is in the 1st phase of claim) however, he has received a letter yesterday stating the increase in his ESA. Don't know if that is a standard letter or a glimmer of hope?
Today, he received another letter. A form to fill in! It says "extra money severe disability claim" It asks who he lives with does, anyone else claiming DLA in the household and if he pays us any rent. I don't think he needs to fill this in as he does not claim income support so he would not benefit in anyway. He lives at home. He does not pay us food or rent ( he has offered but we have declined )This goes to our local office and the less people know about him and myself claiming DLA the better, otherwise we have jealous people reporting us causing us both needless stress. So can he ignore the form? Thanks

I think thhe notice of increased payments is a standard letter sent to all claimants notifying them of the increases in benefit that came into force in April.

With regard to the form, from your brief description, it sounds like they are trying to collect information to see whether your stepson is eligible for the Severe Dsiability Premium, see

ESA Premiums

As a general rule, I would not recommend anyone to ignore a request for information from the DWP, as in many cases this can lead to further problems.
