MANUALLY PROPELLED WHEEL CHAIR ESA was created by shrinathji
Hi,
I read in an earlier thread with regards to mobolising question,(thread is locked)that one should also address using a manually propelled wheelchair although it does not ask in the mobolising question.
What would be the best way to address this as my husband has mobility problems and cannot walk for more than 8 yards due to pain and discomfort. However, he would not be able to mobolise with a manually propelled wheelchair due to numbness on left hand side of body after his recent heart attack.
DO i just state his physical mobolising difficulties and add at the end why he could not use a wheelchair??
Many thanks.
Radhika.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

There are a number of discrepancies between the ESA50 questions and the actual ESA decsriptors, for example, there are two Support Group descriptors that ar not even mentioned on the form.
The way you describe your husbands problems seem perfectly adequate, you explain why he can't operate a manual wheelchair and the underlying reason for this.

Thanks Gordon.
There is another question i would like to raise on mobility and that an MRI scan of the cervical spine showing age related changes to the discs.
Do atos doctors take the problems into consideration when assessing under the mobility descriptors. As these changes are causing my husband severe pain and discomfort.

The ATOS "doctor" should review the ESA50 and any evidence attached to it.
However, at the risk of doing them a dis-service, his assessor may not be sufficiently qualified to properly analyse an MRI and the Decision Maker, who typically has no medical training, will certainly not.

Thanks.
What i meant was the MRI scan report not the "x-ray",
as the report gives a break down of the problem diskss.
I hope i am not cmplicating matters, but am worried that if i simply put in the form that these are the problems and no evidence to back it up then it may be regarded as "mechanical back pain", which may be open to interpratation.
Thanks.

Put it this way, I don't think that sending the report will do any harm.
