RESTORE TAX ALLOWANCES FOR PENSIONERS. was created by Jim Allison BSc, Inst LE, MBIM; MA (Consumer Protection & Social Welfare Law)
In the 2012 Budget the Government froze Old Age Pensioners Age Related Tax
Allowances and cancelled them for those turning 65 after 5 April 2013.
We consider that at a time when pensioners are struggling to make ends meet and
yet are a group of people due to age, health etc who often have extremely limited
opportunity to make good lost income, this reduction in allowances is grossly unfair.
The Government should therefore take immediate action to reverse the decisions
on these allowances which were announced in the 2012 Budget.
This petition was put on the Downing St website shortly after the budget and in less than 3 weeks over 30,000 signatories put their names on the petition.
However, the number of people signing it has slowed down to a crawl, although it
does have nearly 67,000 signatories.
I posted this with Steve's permission several months ago, but I am bringing it to
members attention again as it eventually will affect all members, unless a future
Government repeal it - highly unlikely.
This doesn't just affect those who are currently 65 years of age or who will 65 years
after 5 April in 2013, it will affect everyone who will draw a state pension and/or a private pension in the future, because the freezing of the allowance is permanent.
In order for a Downing Street petition to be debated in the House of Commons it
needs to have at least 100,000 signatories.
Can I please ask members to safeguard their future income by signing the petition if they agree with it and also to post it on other websites they visit.
