Yes P, it can be complicated, this is why it may be advisable to seek face to face advice.

Also, have you read this from our FAQ's :

Hi, cheers to you for your assistance and if I knew where you and your
colleagues were I'd spend all my assets together with you all.
Kind regards

Please note that if you spend the lump sum the DWP could regard this as 'deprivation of capital' and treat you as if you still have it. The rules about this are not straightforward, it is something you will need to discuss with your adviser.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi I'm back ! I am now in receipt of a small NHS pension which has been deducted from my ESA (IR) £ for £ as you said previously. I now have a request to show receipts of my expenditure on the lump sum I received .
Do I need to show receipts for the full amount ? or can I show receipts that keep me under the £6000 limit. I took the majority of the lump sum
out in cash and paid with cash. I still have some money at home which need to pay for a new cooker and the heating system is leaking water somewhere that will also need payment. These are in progress and no receipt currently available. Can you pls. let me know what is expected of me? kind regards and thks martha
