Sending info about your illness to D/M

A while ago (sorry cannot find thread), i read that a member had downloaded relevant facts from the internet about her condition, i think it was fibro or ME and sent it with her ESA5O, to help D/M understand her illness in greater detail. However,i cannot remember the outcome of this.
Do D/M's access NHS website, i have had a look at this and it gives very limited info.
I was wondering if there are any downfalls to this, as in principal i think it is a good idea as both ilnesses are "invisible" and can be very physicaly and mentally restricting on a daily basis.
Have any members done this and been successful!!!!
Thanks.
Radhika.

I would say that it is essential to do this with rare illnesses or ones that are often confused with others.
The DWP have an A-Z of Conditions, this is primarilly used for DLA, but would be equally applicable for ESA, see
www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-g...-medical-conditions/
There is also a Diability Handbook
www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-g...disability-handbook/
If you do reference another source, the more reputable, the better.

I have looked at both links and note not enough info is given with regards to daily limitaions.
When sending info fron another source, is it worth mentioning the source, eg, UK MS Society.
Furthermore, do you think that D/M will take note of this??? or may think that you are being "patronising"!!!! As the last thing one would want to do is to upset the D/M.

Hi R,
Yes, it is always best to state the source of any relevant information that you are providing so that it can be checked, otherwise it may be from your next door neighbour.

You could even provide the address hyperlink to it.
You are allowed to present your case in the most professional and detailed manner that you can manage.
As long as you are not abrupt, or personally insulting in any way, there should not be a problem.
Don't think of the DM as a person, (even though they are (I think) ), think of them as an "entity".
They "SHOULD" take note of it.

My next door neighbour is a righy "Victor Meldrew", he would be the last person i would trust with DWP.(LOL)
I am sure the additional info will be of help as the condition in question is fabromyalgia.

Poor you !!

Whenever I have provided detailed, referenced information to a DM, etc. I have stated something along the lines of :
"As I am aware that The Decision Maker is not medically qualified, and has an extremely heavy workload, I have provided further detailed information in an attempt to help them to come to a speedy and accurate decision"
Further the new Minister for Employment Mark Hoban, has said that one of the reasons for the increasing number of successful appeals is due to the fact that the DM has not had access to all the evidence at the time of making the adverse decision.
Therefore, by you providing as much in-depth evidence as possible at an early stage you may be saving Tax payer's money, in that, it may negate the need to appeal an adverse decision.
In Harrington's Year 3 review, he has recommended that DM's must concentrate on getting the decision "Right first time"
