ESA ESA is not awarded as a result of a specific diagnosis or becuase the claimant has been told they will be unable to work, but rather because the claimant meets the requirements of the ESA descriptors.Hello...I am a new member....Might I find someone with the same condition who is going through the same 'hell' as I am presently? 20 years ago diagnosed at Royal Brompton with mercury poisoning from teething powders given when an infant early 1950s. Recommended to give up work-accept being on benefit for life-gave up professional career-no word from employment/social security at all fof 20 years-assumed assessment in May 2012 a formaility- scored 0 points as played down problems-who wants to winger when condition is untreatable, incurable and degenerative....now heading for Appeal in 7-8 months and feeling depressed.....I want vindication that my condition was and still is serious enough to justify my circumstance prior to May!
Any comments appreciated. John
You don't say what imnpact you condition has on your day to day activities, but it is these that are being considered.
If you have a look at our ESA Claim guides this, and the actual descriptors are explained in more detail. See

I was also given the teething powders as a baby and was diagnosed with Pink's disease, (I have never heard of it being called Young’s). Worked 2 jobs for 25 years then I had to give up work due to ill health. On IB for 18 years. Went to the medical in June the HCP’s interpretation of my answers meant I was put into wrag. I have my appeal next week. I haven't used the mercury poisoning as an argument as I suffer with a few conditions including Ankylosing Spondilitis, Crohn’s Disease and I have only one functioning kidney. I do like you believe that the root problem of my ill health is mercury poisoning. You have to link the way your condition affects you in your day to day activity linking it to the descriptors. Get some help from CAB or other welfare groups. If you type pinks disease into Google you’ll find some info on the condition.
