My husband has been receiving DLA since May 2011. He suffered a stroke in Jan 2011. We were asked to complete another claim form in December 2012 (DLA is until May 2013)
He has today received a letter saying enquires are taking longer than normal as they have requested a report from his GP.
Is this usual? I included a Health Professional Report from his workplace which stated he could no longer work.
I am worried sick they are going to stop paying as this allowance and my carers allowance is the bulk of what we live on.

It is not that unusual and should be a good thing that they are seeking as much evidence as possible before they make a Decision.
You may have simplified the report you sent with your form in your post, but the fact that your husband can no longer work is not really relevant for DLA as it is not an out of work benefit.
