Hi pa001,
Welcome to Benefits and Work

We understand how daunting this can seem
The first thing to take into account, is that an award of DLA is given due to your Mobility Limitations, and/or your Care Needs as a result of any particular medical condition(s) and not the medical condition(s) themselves.
You should refer to our DLA Claims Guide as an aid to filling in your DLA Claim Form.
These can be found here :
DLA Guides
You may find the answers to some of your queries in our :
DLA FAQ’s
You may also find the following helpful :

Take your time to read the information provided above, if you then have any further queries, please re-post on this topic and we will do our best to help.
If you do wish to make a claim for DLA, it is important that you do this before the 8th April, as after that, all new claims will be for PIP, and not DLA.
So your claim form would have to be filled in received and accepted by the DWP, before that date.

Hi pa001,
Just to clarify with regards to the implementation of PIP :
From 8 April 2013 new claims to PIP will be taken in the controlled start
area in the North West and part of the North East of England.
From June 2013
New claims to PIP will be taken in all remaining areas of Great Britain.
So it will only be April 8th if you living in one of the controlled start areas of the country.

With respect to my post above, and your query, I cannot see any reference to one of the start up areas being in NI.
Here is the actual document :
www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/pip-toolkit-factshee...13-new-claimants.pdf
Therefore, unless any of the other Mods have further input, we can assume that you have until June 2013.
You may wish to make local inquiries : www.adviceni.net/advice/index.cfm
Here are three links that contain all the information that we have on PIP.
