Nickname: too old too sick |
Age: 65 |
Main health condition: Both physical and mental health |
Main conditions that affect daily living: Heart Attack, Chronic Angina, degenerative spinal problems, depression. |
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard |
4 point descriptor score: No |
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: If my conditions continue to worsen it's possible. |
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Dressing is almost impossible without my wife's help as it gets harder to bend everyday. Nearly every medication I take (10 at the moment) give me severe side effects from extremely swollen feet so walking is an issue, to severe anxiety breathlessness and depression which all together makes for a pretty miserable day. |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: Well I would lose £290 a month and my wife would lose her carers allowance for looking after me of £310 so £600 a month. I was recently finished at work after 16 years at the same company on capability grounds because I could not continue with my roll as a maintenance engineer as after my heart attack in 2023 my health had deteriorated to such an extent I was having more and more sick off work. I have no other income as my pension is not due for 6 months so not sure what to do, never claimed a benefit before in 50 years of working so all a bit new to me. Currently living off savings and the bit of pip I get. |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: Doubt I could work now too ill generally and I'm too close to retirement I think so not sure what they would expect me to do this near to 66yrs old? |
Anything else to tell us: All a bit sad really, only just got the pip benefit 3 months ago and looks like I may lose it now. Don't think I thought my life would end up like this towards the end. |
