Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: I cannot do my housework, I cannot do anything that involves bending down and then lifting, pulling or pushing. I cannot clean the bath or toilet or use the vacuum cleaner. I have difficulty putting on socks or getting into the bath tub to shower. I can't cook a meal from scratch without too much pain. I can't cut my own toenails. I have difficulty getting the laundry out of the machine and taking it to the line. I am in pain if I walk any distance but I can't get the mobility element because I am a pensioner. I need to use taxis to come home if I am dizzy or in too much pain. I can't maintain my garden. I need expensive shoes with removable insoles so I can use my orthapedic insoles, prescribed by the doctor (without these I am in so much pain I would be effectively immobile) I am wary of public transport in case I soil myself. |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: I would no longer be able to afford a cleaner or the podiatrist. I would be living in squalor, and unable to cut my own toenails or wash my own feet. I would be living in dirty clothes because of the problem of getting heavy wet items out of the washing machine. I would be unable to afford someone to keep my garden tidy. I would have difficulty affording take aways or supermarket food deliveries. I would be scared to go out because I could not afford a taxi to take me home if I was in too much pain, or dizzy. I could not afford taxis to take me to hospital appointments (I'm always scared of soiling myself on public transport) |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I would last about an hour on a good day. If I got there at all. Would the work coach pay for a taxi twice a day? Pain in back on sitting or on standing for long. Plus the incontinence. And the fluctuating blood pressure and the dizziness. Working from home, I could only sit at a desk for a very limited time because of the pain in my back and knees. |
