Can you tell me if the two scores on mobility components are added together to make a total or is it the biggest score of the two that must score 12 to be eligible for the top mobility rate?
IE: if 10 is scored on not being able to plan a route etc and 4 scored on the mobility part does that enable one to get the top rate and automatic blue badge?
Thank you.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

The two scores are added together to give a total for Mobility.

Automatic entitlement for Blue Badges needs 8 PIP mobility points, not 12

Thank you. I'm sorry for not understanding but can someone get the top mobility rate by for instance scoring 10 with not being able to plan a route and 4 from the mobility component. But would not be eligible for an automatic blue card. Is this correct?

To be automatically eligible for a Blue Badge under PIP you will need to score 8 points or more for the ‘Moving around’ activity. Points from the ‘Planning and following journeys’ activity will not be taken account.

This means that people who currently qualify for a Blue Badge under the ‘severe mental illness’ provisions for DLA will not automatically qualify for a Blue Badge. It will still be possible to apply directly to your local authority for a Blue Badge even if you don’t meet the automatic eligibility criteria, however.
