Claiming dla for my son? was created by jamieupanddown
Hi, after some advice regarding my 9 year old son. Ive received a form to claim dla for him but was after some advice. He has eczema, asthma and allergies. He is under a consultant for these. He has astihistamines, creams and inhalers every day, everyday is a battle with creams and medication. His consultant has said he has a high allergy to dust, hes also allergic to pets, grass hayfever. At the moment he has been put on a new inhaler as hes had asthma attacks every month this winter. He can not take tablets to help with his allergies/asthma as they caused him to have severe mood swings, aggressive , bed wetting and nightmares.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any success with this type of claim?
Also there is a section on the form that asks for information from someone who knows the child, who do I put on this as he never goes to anyone as in grandparents so nobody else is involved with his care?

DLA for children can be tricky as you not only need to show that the child has care and/or mobility needs but that these are more substantial than would be expected for an average child of the same age.
In your post you primarily talk about his conditions not the day to day care needs that result! You say he needs an inhaler, how often? Does he need prompting to use the inhaler? What happens if he does no use the inhaler? In a similar vein for the creams, how often? can he do it himself or does he need help either because he cannot do it or he cannot reach all of the effected areas?
