Hi. Could someone please help.
I am wondering if braces with (the ones with metal in the sides) are counted as aids/appliances in pip assessment.

(Referring to Ankle/Foot) and Knee Brace.

Thank you Kindly.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

The general rule of thumb is that aids help you to undertake an activity, appliances take the place of a natural limb or function. On that basis, I would expect your splints to be classed as aids.

This is explained in more detail in our PIP guide.

PIP help for claimants

You might want to bookmark/favourite this on your web browser now so that you can find it easily in future. It helps us enormously when everything relating to the same claim is kept in one place - and I hope you will find it useful too :)

Edited to add - You do not need to make duplicate posts. There will always be a delay before your poist appears as they are all read and approved by a moderator before being published. Even when the forum is officially open, how long this takes depends on how many (voluntary) moderators are on-line and how busy we are. I have deleted your duplicate post so that everything is kept in one place.

yes they are as long as fitted by the hospital on the request of the consultant I know this as I wear them on both legs which are full length and have to be worn at all times as cannot walk with out them mine are made from carbon fibre and are costume made to fit by casting my legs but I do know people who have had problems with the ones that are made from fabric with the metal support in them due to the level of support that these give and that they can be bought over the counter which seems to be the sticking point when the dwp assesses them, hope this can be of some help
