PIP - Home assessment for psychotic husband

My husband has a home assessment booked with Atos on the 10th August. He is currently psychotic and having a stranger in the house is not going to help. He will not be able to give a fair account of himself for a sixty minute assessment if he's still hallucinating and hearing voices. (This was all in my evidence including a letter from the psychiatrist). Should I :
  • just let them come as he is,
  • try to get appointment changed,
  • get the community psychiatric nurse to talk to them?
  • ]Appeal to their better nature?
Whoever comes will have to assess him in the bedroom - there's not even a chair for them to sit on and I can't guarantee he will be awake and dressed especially as they have given us a four hour window for visit. Great as I am disabled myself!

    Any thoughts welcome.

Is your GP in the loop of your husband's treatment and current situation? If they are then ask them to write to ATOS detailing why an assessment will have a detrimental effect on your husband's health.

If the GP is not involved, would his Psychiatrist write another letter, I know you have include one from them already, but unless it very specifically stated that an assessment was not a good idea, it's likely that it will have been ignored in regard to this.

His nurse could speak to them, but it's important that they speak to the right person, the normal call handlers are not able to make the decision that you need, so you might need someone from ATOS to phone the nurse.

You can just let them turn up but based on your post this does not seem to be the best course of action.

In case this helps any I also have had a home visit for psychotic illness in the past and the assessor was very gentle with me, she also listened to my husband and what he had to say. She didn't press us on anything and was just going over a few points from the questionnaire. Hopefully yours will be the same. Obviously if you are having a home visit they accept that is needed which in itself is useful. Mine referred to the recovery team care plan so any info like that, meds etc is helpful for them to see.
