I have been refused a Home Assessment . I am an indefinite DLA to PIP applicant aged 68. I have mental health issues which mean I am unable to leave the house for days on end, even to do something unstressful like shopping. So going to a DWP office is beyond my capacities. ATOS refused a Home Assessment on the ground that I can get to medical appointments. They must have rung the hospital and GP to check on me. I emailed back to inform them that I have often had to cancel a lot of appointments because I was unable to leave the house and can prove this. I got no reply and I understand that ATOS will now refer the matter to the DWP for a decision. If the DWP decides against offering a Home Assessment, what recourse do I have to challenge that decision?
It's unlikely that ATOS will offer a home assessment unless your GP writes to them to explain why you cannot attend at their offices, so you should speak to them to see whether they will provide you with a letter.
Although the DWP can override ATOS to carry out a home assessment they will not do so unless you have first failed to attend, which will introduce a whole load of other problems to your claim, not least considerable delay.
One of the things you can do is to contact your MP and ask for there assistance.
