Hi All,
My wife has resigned from her job today so that she can spend more time with/caring for me.
She is going to be working 2 days a week and is likely to be earning just around £100 per week gross
Will she be able to claim the carers allowance, I am on the higher rate of care and mobility and my health seems to be deterioating more each day.
I would like her to be able to be at home with me but needs must etc etc
So is the £100 limit gross or net???
Any other advice would be appreciated

She needs to earn less than £110 after deductions. See the following

As an alternative to working your wife could claim Income Support if still available in your area and subject to your personal circumstances.

Hi Gordon,
If it is means tested (Income Support) then we will be snookered as I have a pension and some savings.
What are the area constraints regarding Income Support?

Yes, IS is means tested you can put your information into one of the online benefit calculators.
www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators
If you are in a Universal Credit area you may have to claim UC rather than IS.

Thanks Gordon, I think IS is a non starter, but will be happy to get the carers allowance.
My wife will earn under £110 per week, but may have to work a Saturday morning sometimes.
How do you reconcile that with DWP if the net income goes over £110 some weeks?
Do they need your payslip every week, or will a telephone call suffice?
Probably the most awkward option.

It will depend on how she is paid, this might be good or bad. Any week that she exceeds the allowable limit then she will not be paid the CA. They can treat her income is as weekly or monthly; so the odd week on a monthly payment schedule may avoid the CA being withheld, but more weekends could result in the whole month being over the limit. You'll have to consider the two options as to which is best for them to consider. A weekly amount from a monthly payment is calculated as £ / 30 x 7.
They may need her payslips and the onus will be on her to report any overpayments.
