Hi Forum Anyone know of any exceptions to income being taken away from you if you are on ESA? My brother survives on PIP and ESA (Many thanks to this website) but has the chance of commuting a small occupational pension into a lump sum which would be just above the £16000 - this would be amazing and he could do some much needed work to the house where he lives. But if he loses and has to apply again for ESA it would be very traumatic all round.Any advice?

It will depend on whether they are receiving Income Related or Contribution Based ESA, if the former then there is no way the pension having an impact on his ESA. I would recommend that he gets face to face advice, a trained advisor can calculate what he will receive in benefits.
Do an internet search for "welfare advice" with his postcode, town or county.
