Our understanding is that ESA claimants will begin being moved to UC (ESA(IR)) and New ESA ESA(CB)) at some time in 2019, although based on the progress of UC to date would suggest that this is optimistic

I'm not sure that I understand your question

UC is a means tested benefit and all of the major benefits that it replaces are also means tested.

Pippa wrote: I'm sorry. I misread your first reply which is why my second question didn't make sense. So long as I remain in the support group, I should be transferred to this "New ESA" then and not Universal Credit. Has the DWP released any details about this? Will it be very different from the current Contributions Based ESA?
Being in the Support Group is not relevant to a claimant being transferred.
New ESA is to all intents and purposes the same as ESA(CB), the relevant legislation is different but the criteria are exactly the same.
There is no additional information in the public domain at this time about how and when ESA claimants will be migrated other than the vague date of the process starting in 2019. We will keep members informed as more info becomes available but I would not expect anything to become clearer before 2019.
