ESA assessment and previous medical retirement was created by Stephen Shawcross
I'm due for a face to face medical next week. Ironically I was released from work certified with severe ill health retirement in April this year and found that my pension didn't meet my means. I applied for ESA knowing of the pension income against benefit rule (I worked for JCP as an ESA advisor for 25 years!!). Assuming the company who medically assessed me and certified me as incapable for work for the future - my ESA50 reflected this (checked against this site's guide), I feel going for another assessment as overkill - I supplied the certificates too! I have a degenerative and progressive neurological condition and will suffer pain going into town and waiting around.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

ESA has very specific criteria that a claimant needs to meet, we regularly hear from members who have been medically retired and the criteria used to determine this is often very different from that used to make an ESA award.
The bottom line is that you must attend the ESA assessment or your claim will be closed by the DWP.
You can ask for a home assessment but you will need the support of your GP who will need to write to Maximus explaining why you cannot attend at their offices.
Have you considered applying for PIP? Our PIP Claim guide explains the criteria.
