The following only applies to Income Related ESA, Contribution Based ESA has no savings limit.
Yes you need to contact the DWP office dealing with your ESA claim, the money from the sale should be disregarded as savings for 26 weeks providing you intend to use it to purchase a new home. If it looks like you may exceed the 26 weeks then contact them again, they can extend the 26 weeks if you can show that you are having problems finding a suitable property.
