If you go on nhs.uk and then onto "How to access your health records" it explains what to do. Access is free and cannot be blocked by admin staff. There is also information about this on the Information Commissioner's Office website (ico.org.uk). Hope this helps.
I had to pay £20 for a letter from my GP as this is classed as private work and not covered in their NHS contracts.

Hello everyone, sorry I am late posting this but I thought I would give an update.
After writing my last post my wife went online and lo and behold there was an appointment for the doctor she wanted to see (we had to see the GP as we informed the DVLA about my wife's condition to allow her to drive and they would be writing to him) he did a letter of support there and then saying don't tell them on reception. We looked at the PIP forms and the questions that they ask on this site and wrote them and our answers down (with the help on this wonderful site) we then took them to our drop in Citizen Advice to check them over they changed the odd word and sentence . We got the PIP forms on the 30th of July a week before the date to be in we got a letter from DWP giving us another 14 days to complete the forms.
We had a date of September 2nd for the assessment which was a home visit (we did not ask for one) It was a lady (nurse) who assessed my wife. We got the dreaded letter on 11th October and they had awarded her enhanced rates for daily living and mobility backdated to the 30th of July, we will not be contacted again until 24th September 2029 thank you to this wonderful site and the people who run it your help is invaluable and we are so grateful to everyone not forgetting the support of you wonderful people on this forum.

Hi Willanable

So glad to hear the good news about your wife's PIP. Congratulations to both of you.

Hi Willandable

I find so much of this on this on these threads. I can't sympathise enough because of your gp's ineptitude in doing something which is compassionate and necessary given the DWP'S lack of professional responsibility when it comes to the 'We will contact your GP if we need further information' scenario in their guide to filling out the form. (Back door politics to prevent people like yourself and I and others who desperately need help on a day to day basis.

I requested they contact my gp, like you, thinking that should be the very norm.... nope they didnt.

It is sad also that so many people are being refused supporting letters from their GP. I am lucky, I have the support from my GP and Psychologist, Psychiatrist and Pain Clinic. They have written support for my claim at absolutely no cost to myself. I can only guess that my practice is more compassionate and realistic and discounts the hardship felt by people who either 1. Have to pay for any supporting evidence or 2. Somehow have a significant impact on their time constraints.... either way, your GP surgery will lose out over time because those who are left to go through what you have done, will need more help and support because of the turmoil the DWP insist on making claimants suffer. (I speak as a genuine disabled person)

My best wishes go out to you and your wife and I am so glad you have received the result you deserved.

Xx

I am so pleased you got the result eventually, that you so clearly deserved.

Thank you so much for such wonderful advice, I personally never knew this and I feel like it would make such a massive difference to my claim. I’m going to ask my GP practice on Monday for my reports, I’m sure it will be money well spent! Great advice. Kindest wishes, Michelle xx
