Hi could someone point me in the right direction on the guidance of the use of apps for PIP? I have a visual impairment and use an app specifically for those with visual issues to detect colours of clothes. I only use the app if family members arent around to help me pick colours, but the majority of time I recieve help from family members.
I use a long cane to help me navigate my surroundings, but I also use google maps and listen to the audio to help me navigate new areas. The majority of the time I use my long cane.
The guidance in this area is very poor but the view being expressed by the Upper Tied Judges is that for an app to be considered it must have been specifically designed to assist a disabled person overcome a specific limitation.
So the app that allows you to determine the colour of your clothing should be treated as an aid, however, Google Maps or similar apps or even navigation devices are not considered to be aids as they are a not designed for the disabled.
