PIP - Applying for more discriptors was created by amberkindness
Hello,
My PIP review has come up again and after the clearer definition of the planning and following a journey I thought I would apply for this as I really struggle going out and the effect on me afterwards.
I work part time and drive, going outside at all is an issue as I avoid seeing anyone I know, only go shopping at night once a week when it's quiet, I'm often late for work due to various anxieties (currently working from home) After being around people I'm exhausted, I am literally unable to get up from the sofa and sleep for hours.
I get very anxious diversions in car but can follow them and I find it easier as I am alone and not worrying about others perceptions of me )I feel I am being watched all the time) I still become exhausted but not as badly as if I was walking as the threat is much more present.
I was going to apply for communicating although I am adept in understanding basic communicating I can struggle when overwhelmed, severe anxiety and 'switch off' like a disassociation, I literally do not comprehend what others are saying to me and often do not follow their instructions. Others expectations of me overwhelm me as I feel others do not understand what my problems are which makes me feel alienated. TBH I'm unsure even if I received points it would boost my initial award but I feel these apply to me.
My question is I'm aware claimants are challenged, do I still have a case if I am so badly affected with following and planning a journey even if I am less effected driving? I always feel better having someone with me when out but often don't get this help.

The fact that you travel to work alone will count against you, you will need to argue that this is the only journey that you can undertake, at best you are assessing yourself as being unable to follow a route to afamiliar unfamiliar place which would be a Standard award.
I realise that this may just be what you have written in your post but you have immediately undermined your argument by saying the following;
"I am adept in understanding basic communicating"
It implies proficiency in understanding complex communication which you are trying to argue that you do not have.
Also, you need to argue your case in context to the Descriptors for this activity, you don't appear to need an aid so you will need to discuss your need for communication support. See our PIP Claim guide for more details.

Hi Gordon,
Thank you for your reply,
I understand your point regarding communication. I understand basic communication, what is being said but due to 'zoning out' I often don't comprehend anything anyone says and struggle to follow instructions. This usually happens when I'm overwhelmed. I have to explain what my struggles are as I understand how it currently reads.
Can I argue the mobility descriptor with an unfamiliar journey?

Mt bad, my post should have said "unfamiliar" in the first place.
You say you "often don't comprehend", to score you will need to show that you are affected on the majority of days.
