Hi, I have complex PTSD and my life has completely stopped for the last 2 and a half years. I cannot leave my house without either a person I completely trust or my dog because he makes me feel safe. In my eyes he is my assistant dog because he enables me to leave the house without a person I trust and he naturally knows how to calm me. He is not a trained assistant dog that has been provided but I would like to train him myself to be an official assistant dog if I can which we started but have had to put on hold due to corona virus. My question is - will they allow me to class this as assistance when it comes to being able to leave the house as without him this would be a rare occasion and require a person? Grateful for any input
All you can do is make your arguments on the claim form but I'm afraid the DWP may take the view that as the animal has not been specifically trained then it cannot be treated as an Assistance Dog and this will impact on your scoring points.
