PIP renewal assessment by phone only? was created by janeyj
Hi, my PIP award expires in December. I've recieved a letter asking me to telephone the DWP, rather than a paper form to fill in like I did last time it was up for renewal. Is this normal procedure now?
What's changed for me since last renewal - I was initially refused PIP at last renewal despite things having worsened, but won my appeal at tribunal. I also just turned 60. Not sure if either of those or just a change is procedure is the reason for a phone call rather than the paper form.
Also, is there anything I need to be especially aware of with a phone renewal application? I intend to have the phone on speaker so my husband can listen and make notes, as I know from both previous face-to-face assessments how what the assessor documents I said often bears no resemblance to what I did say!
Thanks!

Hi Jane
Does the letter actually say it is a telephone assessment, or are you being asked to phone for a review form. We are hearing quite a lot of people are not being sent out review forms, but we advise people to request one (which you are entitled to) and send it back. You may not want to fill in the form, but if your condition has got worse I would suggest that you do so. As you say, it's not easy to rely on just the assessor's word of what you might say.
I would definitely clarify the position before you proceed further. You're sensible to have the phone on speaker and you can always record the phone call if you wish - just don't inform the assessor you're doing so.

I am literally terrified. Had a letter asking me to phone weeks ago.
Referring to fact my PIP is due for review dec 2020.
My PIP was granted at appeal.
I had a complete braekdown in the process as well as my physical issues.
My friend has agreed to be here to phone them tomorrow I am terrified.
I dont know what to expect. There is no form just a letter requesting contact!
Can they alunch an assessment there and then? Help PLEAS!

Hi angela
I have never known an assessment to take place when you phone up, you are usually given a minimum of 7 days notice. When you phone up you will be talking to a contact centre, there will be a discussion as to what happens next.
We are living in strange times, some members on this forum have mentioned that they have had a brief discussion with an assessor to see if there has been any change in their situation when they phoned up for a on going review.
